AudioMiner – Ready for Use

AudioMiner – the new audio resources portal has replaced the old sound retrieval system (  from 12:00 noon on  25 February 2013 (Mon).

AudioMiner provides access to 282,000 sound effect files and 44,000 production music tracks.  Members of the Academy are welcome to search, sample and download audio files for synchronization into your work for educational use.

A series of workshops introducing you to the use of AudioMiner has been scheduled as follows:

New Electronic Resources

Britannica Image Quest (大英線上教育圖庫)

Britannica Image Quest is a searchable image database produced by Encyclopedia Britannica.  It contains over two million quality images.  These images have been rights-cleared for non-commercial, educational use.  The images are organized by subjects or collections and can be used with interactive whiteboards, blogs and projects.  Users are able to print, download, email or save the full-sized image to their personal Lightbox.

New IIMP & IIPA Platform

The International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) Full Text and the International Index to Performing Arts (IIPA) Full Text will move to a consolidated ProQuest platform.  The old platform will no longer be available from 22 December 2011.

The new ProQuest Platform displays thumbnail images allowing you to search in more ways, including by subject, product, keyword and beyond – with one powerful search box.

To use from remote, create your own account by clicking “My Research” as shown in Diagram 2.

Britannica Image Quest – Electronic Resources on Trial

Britannica Image Quest contains more than 2 million high quality images on all topics and for all ages from the world’s greatest collections and leading museums.  Image Quest is created in collaboration with over 40 of the world’s best and most respected image libraries.

The images are organized by subject; easily searchable and can be used with interactive whiteboards, and for blogs and projects.  Each photo or illustration comes with complete metadata, including the source, the copyright holder, caption, and keywords, etc.  The database can be accessed within the Academy until 31 Dec 2011.

New Electronic Resources

Academic Search Elite contains full text for more than 2,100 journals.  Nearly 150 journals have PDF images dating back to 1985.   This database offers information in many areas of academic study including social sciences, humanities, arts, education, communications, languages and literature, etc.

Film & Television Literature Index with Full Text

Subject coverage includes film & television theory, screenwriting, production, cinematography, technical aspects and reviews.  The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 380 publications, full text for more than 120 journals and 100 books.  It has been designed for use by film scholars, college students, and general viewers.
