New Electronic Resources – Asian Film Online

We are pleased to inform you that “Asian Film Online” is now accessible with passcode login.  [please refer to “Login for Databases” on the Intranet]

It offers access to more than 600 feature length films and short films.  Each film includes a short preview and summary.   The database particularly covers many titles on China, India, Iran, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.  More than 60% of the films are award winners.

Films are indexed by filmmaker, country, language, genre, theme and original language.  Users can choose to preview or see the full movie.  English subtitles and synopses are available for most of the films.

New Electronic Resources

We are pleased to inform you that “Digital Theatre Plus” and “Routledge Performance Archive” are available for use from 6 May 2013.

Digital Theatre Plus provides online access to a digital streaming video collection of leading British theatre productions.  It includes behind-the-scenes documentaries as well as teaching and learning resources to facilitate a better understanding of the productions and texts.  Learning resources include study guides, interviews with actors and insights from theatre makers.

Routledge Performance Archive is produced in partnership with Digital Theatre.  This resource provides access to audio-visual material from past and present theatre practitioners.  It includes: interviews; masterclasses; excerpted and full-length contemporary productions; and documentaries.  The content is provided as streaming video.  You can browse or search via subject or practitioner.

中國民間美術館 (Chinese Folk Art Museum)

Chinese Folk Art Museum is a searchable image database under the China Digital Library platform.  It contains over 15,000 representative folk art images.  There are 6 collections.

1. New Year Painting (年畫館)
2. Paper-cut (剪紙館)
3. Shadow Play (皮影館)
4. Garment (服飾館)
5. Auspicious Sign (吉祥館)
6. Face Painting (臉譜館)

Images can be searched by timeline (時代), collection (分館), topic (專題), region (地域).  Users can print, download, email or save the image for educational use.

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature – New Platform

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (RILM) is now available on the ProQuest platform. This platform provides access and cross-search to:

(1) International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text (IIMP),
(2) International Index to Performing Arts Full Text (IIPA), and
(3) RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (RILM).

New Look of Oxford Reference Online

Oxford Reference Online has changed to a new look and the platform is made up of two cross-searchable collections: Oxford Quick Reference & Oxford Reference Library.  

The site contains:

• Over 300,000 Overview pages defining each unique term in Oxford Reference,
• Over 2 million facts and definitions,
• Over 16,000 illustrations,
• 270 Timelines organized by time period, area and theme containing over 9,000 events,
• A personalized area, My Work, where you can save your own searches and content pages.

Airiti Books 華藝中文電子書 – Electronic Resources on Trial

“Airiti Books”, a new platform is now on trial and can be accessed within the Academy from now to 8 February 2013.

It offers access to over 27,000 ebooks in Chinese.  More than 80% of the ebooks are published after 2000, covering a wide range of subject areas including arts, language & literatures, humanities, social sciences, religions and philosophy, etc.

On campus, you can simply view the ebook online or download the iRead ebook viewer compatible with your own mobile device.  To download individual e-book to your mobile device, you would need to sign up for a new account.
