New Electronic Resources

We are pleased to inform you that “Digital Theatre Plus” and “Routledge Performance Archive” are available for use from 6 May 2013.

Digital Theatre Plus provides online access to a digital streaming video collection of leading British theatre productions.  It includes behind-the-scenes documentaries as well as teaching and learning resources to facilitate a better understanding of the productions and texts.  Learning resources include study guides, interviews with actors and insights from theatre makers.

Routledge Performance Archive is produced in partnership with Digital Theatre.  This resource provides access to audio-visual material from past and present theatre practitioners.  It includes: interviews; masterclasses; excerpted and full-length contemporary productions; and documentaries.  The content is provided as streaming video.  You can browse or search via subject or practitioner.

AudioMiner – Ready for Use

AudioMiner – the new audio resources portal has replaced the old sound retrieval system (http://sound.hkapa.edu)  from 12:00 noon on  25 February 2013 (Mon).

AudioMiner provides access to 282,000 sound effect files and 44,000 production music tracks.  Members of the Academy are welcome to search, sample and download audio files for synchronization into your work for educational use.

A series of workshops introducing you to the use of AudioMiner has been scheduled as follows:

New Electronic Resources

中國民間美術館 (Chinese Folk Art Museum)

Chinese Folk Art Museum is a searchable image database under the China Digital Library platform.  It contains over 15,000 representative folk art images.  There are 6 collections.

1. New Year Painting (年畫館)
2. Paper-cut (剪紙館)
3. Shadow Play (皮影館)
4. Garment (服飾館)
5. Auspicious Sign (吉祥館)
6. Face Painting (臉譜館)

Images can be searched by timeline (時代), collection (分館), topic (專題), region (地域).  Users can print, download, email or save the image for educational use.

Routledge Performance Archive – Trial access extend to 31 Jan 2013

We have received favorable feedback from academic staff on the use of Routledge Performance Archive. To allow staff and students more time to try out this database, the Libraries have asked for an extension of trial. Please click on the link above to access (end of trial period: 31 January 2013).

Routledge Performance Archive – Electronic Resources on Trial

Routledge Performance Archive

We have setup a trial of Routledge Performance Archive and can be accessed within the Academy until 7 January 2013.

Routledge Performance Archive is a developing resource produced in partnership with Digital Theatre (www.digitaltheatre.com).  This resource provides access to audio-visual material from past and present theatre practitioners.  It includes: interviews; masterclasses; excerpted and full-length contemporary productions; and documentaries covering more than fifty years.  The content is provided as streaming video.  You can browse or search via subject or practitioner.

New content will be updated every three months, Routledge Performance Archive is accessible via mobile devices, (not supported in IOS device).  Downloading not allowed.

Asian Traditional Theatre and Dance: Unlimited Access

Asian Traditional Theatre & Dance has now been upgraded to unlimited access.  You can freely access this online reference to search for the traditional forms of Asian theatre and dance in their historical context with no restriction.

Notable New Electronic Resources Now Available

(1) Classical Music in Video

Classical Music in Video currently provides over 300 hours of video and will grow to 1,000 hours in 2013.  It provides coverage in breadth and depth for classical music, and is relevant to a broad range of studies, including music history, music appreciation, music performance, analysis and theory.

(2) Classical Scores Library, Volume I

Classical Scores Library is the most comprehensive online scores database.  It provides access to over 24,000 scores and 400,000 pages that can be printed and annotated.

(3) Opera in Video

The collection contains 500 hours of video comprising 291 operatic works.  Famous opera performances from the Baroque era through to the twentieth century.  It allows users to analysis stage design, vocal techniques, roles, and musical interpretation across time periods, opera houses, and conductors.  You can search by title, venue, date and various other ways.

(4) Theatre in Video

Theatre in Video contains more than 250 performances of plays and over 100 film documentaries (more than 500 hours in total).  The database includes the full text of plays, their history of performances, production backgrounds, reference materials, etc.  The included plays are predominately 20th century masterpieces, as well as many Shakespeare productions.

The above 4 titles can be cross searched via the Academic video online platform (Classical music in video, Dance in video, Filmakers library online,  Opera in video, Theatre in video) or Music Online (Classical music in video, Classical scores library, Dance in video, Opera in video).

New Electronic Resources

The Berg Fashion Library is an online resource providing access to interdisciplinary and integrated text, image, and journal content on world dress and fashion.  It is useful to anyone researching or studying fashion, art history, history, museum studies, and cultural studies.

Key content included: the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion; full text of approximately 60 Berg fashion e-books, an extensive colour image bank of 3,600 images.

Britannica Image Quest (大英線上教育圖庫)

Britannica Image Quest is a searchable image database produced by Encyclopedia Britannica.  It contains over two million quality images.  These images have been rights-cleared for non-commercial, educational use.  The images are organized by subjects or collections and can be used with interactive whiteboards, blogs and projects.  Users are able to print, download, email or save the full-sized image to their personal Lightbox.
