Shelf Arrangement for Feature Films
Previously, feature films of different languages were inter-shelved accordingly to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme which was not very meaningful to users. To help users to access the feature film collection more easily, the Library staff has made some local changes to shelve items according to the original language of the feature films.
The new order for feature films (i.e. classification number begins with PN1995.9, PN1997 and PN1997.2) is as tabled.
PN1995.9 | .A | Collection |
.C | Chinese | |
.E | English | |
.F | French | |
.G | German | |
.I | Italian | |
.J | Japanese | |

FTV Library Survey
In response to the suggestions collected through the FTV Library Survey conducted by Student Association of the School of Film and Television in May 2009, the opening hours of the FTV Library was revised for the 1st semester of 2009/2010. The Library conducted another survey in November 2009 to follow up suggestions made in the May Survey. 97 questionnaires were sent out and 79 replies were received : a response rate of 81%.
Key Findings:
1. Over 80% of the respondents visited the Library at least twice a week. Most of them came to browse and borrow AV materials.
2. Most users visited the FTV Library between 1:00 – 2:00 pm and 6:00 – 7:00 pm.
3. Over 50% of the respondents felt that the Chinese book and AV collections were not sufficient.
4. 20% of the respondents never used the electronic resources.
5. 46%of respondents said that there were insufficient notebooks.
A sharing session was held on 18 December 2009, detailed analysis of the survey findings was presented to students and staff of the School of Film and Television. At the request of the School, the Thursday opening hours have been amended and can be found at: http://www.hkapa.edu/media/general/download/lib/Opening-Hour-2nd-Semester.pdf
Measures Taken:
To solve the problem of insufficient space for a larger collection, some shelving space has been created by moving the old newspapers to the student canteen at the Bethanie campus. Workshops will be organized for staff and students in the near future for them to become familiarized with using e-resources. In response to point 5 of the key findings, an extra netbook has already been made available for loan in the FTV Library.
